DUI and Speeding, First Offense--Time Limits to Save Driver's License
Critical, time sensitive rights in the DUI/OWI matter expire with time (most after ten days following an arrest unless they are preserved). You should therefore speak with an experienced DUI attorney as soon as possible, or you could lose your right to attempt to save your driver's license. This is also true if you are accused of refusing a chemical test, and the resulting "refusal" charge can have worse consequences upon your future than the first offense DUI. There is a high probability in such scenarios that a good attorney could get both the speeding ticket and the refusal charge dismissed at minimum in this circumstance. If you do not have time to hire an attorney before your court date, a not guilty plea to both matters will temporarily preserve the status quo until you have consulted with an attorney, even if some rights have already expired.
