Is it better to have a lawyer present when going to court to help save points and avoid insurance increases
1 Answer from Attorneys
Yes; unless you are a retired employee of the Department of Transportation or have legal experience in traffic law, an experienced traffic lawyer will probably know much more than you will about the ramifications of various types of convictions upon your future insurance rates, your ability to keep your license, and impacts upon your employability caused by some convictions (particularly drunken driving related matters). Odds are that the lawyer can therefore negotiate an arrangement which is more in your best interest than you could negotiate on your own. And, if a negotiated settlement is not possible, such a lawyer can better represent you at your trial and give you better odds of acquittal than attempting to go through a trial without a lawyer. These are general comments only which are not intended as legal advice or create an attorney client relationship.
