Legal Question in Education Law in Wisconsin
Personnel Files
My principal is putting a letter in my file. he also keeps a diary or log of things that have happened to me and the rest of the staff in the past in his office. Because i wrote a rebuttal letter he is mad and wants to write a letter of everything that he has kept in his daily diary about me the past eight years, can he do this? For example being late for class, forgetting to put a grade in for a student and maybe some supervision things...Can he use his daily log to put another letter in my file?

Re: Personnel Files
He might write the letter, but I believe you'd have grounds to have the letter removed. If it was not serious enough to merit a letter at the time that it occurred, it should not be written up now. Also, conduct 8 years ago hardly bears on your professional standing now.
You should consider getting an attorney and challenging the principal's action if he does as he suggests.
