Legal Question in Family Law in Wisconsin

Regarding name change. Wi law states that children under 14 need approval of both parents, but over 14 it is not parent approval is not required. It is reguired for over 14 to have it published for 3 wks prior to court. My son turns 14 mid August. Can we file and post it in the paper prior to him turning 14 as long as the court date is after he is 14, or does the filing and publishing have to occur after his birthday or the over 14 rules to apply?

You should wait until he turns 14, to prevent any arguments that he was not in compliance.
