Legal Question in Family Law in Wisconsin

Credit reputation following divorce

In my divorce decree, the court awarded some bills to me and others to my spouse. My spouse is failing to pay bills

on time and some not at all. My spouse refuses to refinance or otherwise remove my name from those bills that were awarded to her. My credit name is being purposefully and vengefully damaged by my spouse

Can I sue or in some way force my spouse to remove my name from bills that are her responsibility?

Re: Credit reputation following divorce

Hello, Please excuse the delay in reply. In general, creditors don't honor divorce decrees division of debt. They say that the agreement was between the parties. If your name is on the debt, they will try to collect it from you. If you pay her debts, you can try to recover money from her, though that might be difficutl. It becomes more complex in bankruptcy. To get a firm answer you can rely you, you will have to retain a lawyer who can help you look at your options. Best wishes, Mark J. Mahoney
