Legal Question in Family Law in Wisconsin
Divorce,
Do I need a divorce if seperated for 45 years

Re: Divorce,
I hate to sound like a wise guy, but nobody "needs" a
divorce--only those who are for some reason unhappy
with continuing the legal status of being married.
Being married carries with it many significant rights
and restrictions, including a restriction against
marrying anyone else, a right and duty of mutual support,
and liability for one another's debts. Another important one
is the marital property right to one half of any property
(or debt)accumulated during the marraige. Which,
if any, of these do you seek to change? Answer that question and I
can tell you whether or not you "need" a divorce.
Incidently, the fact of separation means almost nothing in Wisconsin
relative to these rights and obligations.
