Legal Question in Family Law in Wisconsin
joint legal custody
My ex and I disagree over a decision regarding our son stock car racing. He has hired a lawyer and states that he will file suit against the race track if they allow my son to race. We have joint legal custody, but I have primary placement. My son is almost 17 years old and chooses not to spend any time with his father.
What do I do?

Re: joint legal custody
Hello,
I am not sure what the rules are regarding age and racing. If the rule is 18 or age of majority, then I assume the track will take care of this by itself without a lawsuit and make your son wait. Joint custody means that the two of you have to agree over important matters, and while I do not know for sure, the racing is likely one of them. If you cannot agree, the this will have to be decided in court. Best wishes, and make sure you double check this reply with a local lawyer or two. Mark J. Mahoney
