Legal Question in Family Law in Wisconsin

Paternal rights?

I was wondering what is all involved in terminating parental rights? How do you go about it if the father is willing? Unwilling? My future husband wants to adopt. Thanks!

Re: Paternal rights?

Hello,

There is a rather complex state law that sets out all the requirements. Basically, the court will want a legal action filed and for your the father to appear in court to make certain that he knows what he is doing and giving up. If the father has an attorney, that will make it go smoother, but may not be absolutely necessary. In summary, you bring a legal action to terminate parental rights, make sure that you meet all the requirements of state law so that the court will approve, and you will have your objective met.

Let me know if you need assistance. Best wishes,
