Legal Question in Family Law in Wisconsin
Stipulation agreement
I went to visit my ex's lawyer, to talk about numbers regarding paying child support.
When I got there, her lawyer threw a stipulation in my face, saying that either I sign now, or they go to the state first thing the following day and take a full 17% of my paycheck. He said I had to sign it now or never, and he had permission from my ex to make such a statement. The stipulation was for a fixed amount slightly less than the 17%, but with no alternatiing dependant tax break for me.
My question is, are these bully tactics legal? Can he say that if I don't sign right this minute, they'll go to the state??

Re: Stipulation agreement
Hello,
It is not illegal to make an offer like that and say take it now or leave it. Of course, they may change their mind and let you accept it later, or they may not. If not, you should still have an opportunity to try to get the alternating deduction in the order that you seek. However, I have very little information about your case, so you should give specific advice from a lawyer of your own. Best wishes,
