Legal Question in Family Law in Wisconsin

when do you get to stop being a parent

My daughter is going to be 18, but she will have two months of school to complete. Does my ex have a right to stop child support befor graduation. She is honor roll and we always told her she would go to collage. He has a new family and he chose not to be a part of her life any more. Does he have a right to not be a finacial partner for his daughter

Re: when do you get to stop being a parent

I presume that your Judgment of Paternity or Judgment of Divorce was granted by a Circuit Court in the State of Wisconsin. As such, the non-custodial parent has the obligation to pay child support until the child reaches the age of 18 or the age of 19 if attending high school or an accredited course to obtain a high school diploma equivalency or is emancipated.

This is not legal advice. This is an answer to a general question without all the facts being present. Please contact me at (262) 642-4368 to discuss this further. Victoria A. Oleniczak
