There are two ways to terminate a parent's rights. First, the father can agree to terminate his rights. If he does not agree, but you still want to terminate, you can file a petition asking the judge to do so. Either way, the judge will appoint a guardian ad litem for the child to determine if termination is in the child's best interest. Even if the father agrees to terminate his rights, the court may not allow him to do that.
