Legal Question in Family Law in Wisconsin

Wisconsin Law regarding divorce and re-marrying a foreign person

I am single, and am in a relationship with a woman from Germany who's divorce is pending, but will be final within the next 2 months. She has no children. My question is: Is there a ''waiting period'', once her divorce in Germany becomes final, before it is legal for her to re-marry in the state of Wisconsin?? If so, how long is the waiting period? Are there states in the U.S. where there is NO waiting period?? Thank You

Re: Wisconsin Law regarding divorce and re-marrying a foreign person

Hello,

In Wisconsin the standard waiting period after a divorce is 6 months. My guess is that applies even to a foreign divorce, but I am not certain. I would have to do some checking to find out and you should pose the question to a local attorney. I believe that Nevada has a no wait period, and there may be some other states as well. However, again I am not certain and you should confirm that before you make any plans.

Best Wishes, Mark J. Mahoney
