Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Wisconsin
My Dad dies in June, I no longer live in Wisconsin. My what is now my ex boyfriend was asked to keep in storage till I was able to decide on what to do with it. I asked him multiple times to return it to the bank and he has refused. The last time was via text of which he said he would and time has come an gone twice. He has since changed his number and removed himself from facebook allowing no contact. He stay at or near a storage unit which limits access. I had called the police department who told me that I have no rights and that I would need to call the bank and have them to report stolen. My concerns is this, one the bank is more inclined to drop it since the value for the car is not worth the trouble. I am not ok with letting him keep the vehicle and if the bank lets it go it would go to me or my siblings and not him. I had thought of having my brother wait outside the storage unit until he left and follow him to the gas station and while he paid go sit in the car and reclaim possession but I am would like to know what can happen legally to me if I do that. Is there another legal way?

Sorry, but I can't tell what you are asking, although it sounds as though there was a car and the title might be in both your names, and that you were not legally married. If any owner will not cooperate in voluntarily clearing up the title, then you are left with involuntary transfers through some sort of court process, such as probate if the person has died, or replevin if he is still alive. If you were married, divorce courts could also order a title transfer. If you cannot afford a lawyer, a trip to the DMV website might provide you with some guidance, but lawyers cannot tell anything about any legal titles without examining all of the documents in its chain of title.
