Legal Question in Immigration Law in Wisconsin

Marry a US citizen on B1/B2 Multiple entry 5 year Valid Visa

I have been to the US two years

earlier on a J1 VISA, as part of a

scholarship program for a cultural

student exchange. There I met this

beautiful princess, and we have

been dating for 8 months now... I

am visiting her on a B1/B2 Visa,

which is valid for 5 years.

I have heard that the immigration

officer only grants about 6 months

of stay on the entry... Now if I get

married to her, and I have 6 months

to spare, would I be able to shift my

status in the US so that I dont have

to leave?

We are happily in love, and it would

really cause us much pain if I would

have to leave after this visit, we

have already stayed away from

each other during the 8 months

that we have dated.. Kindly

respond as early answers would be

appreciated, I am leaving for US in

12 days and really frustrated :(

Dear Inquirer:

You cannot come to the US as a B-2 visa holder intending to marry a US Citizen. If you are in the US pursuant to a lawful B-2 admission and subsequently marry--i.e. months after your admission with no preconceived intent, it is possible to stay in the US and apply for adjustment of status.
