Legal Question in Immigration Law in Wisconsin

Options for a Canadian.

I have been in the USA for 8 months now (having driven across the border

showing only my driver's license) and came to be with my girlfriend.

I have not been working but need to as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I do

not have a college education, have only 6 years technical experience and have

been unemployed for 2 years which would seem to reduce my chances of

finding a company willing to sponsor me.

We do plan to get married but have been together only 1 year and do not

want to rush into it if we don't have to.

Do I have legal options?

Should I work illegally until we are ready to get married?

I have it in my head that a creative Attorney could help me solve this problem.

Am I dreaming?

What I don't want is to give someone $300 only to be told I have no options.

Thank you for any help you can offer and thank you, too, for being here in

the first place.

Re: Options for a Canadian.

Dear Sir,

A good faith marriage to a US citizen is a practical option. Aside from that you may be limited in your work options considering that you do not have a college education and/or sufficient experience to equate to a college degree. Also, it is almost certain you will require an employer sponsor to receive any type of work authorization. The advice is is so vague since I am not familiar with the facts of your case. You do need to invest in a proper consulation with an attorney to determine what options you do, and do not, have. A good attorney is well worth the expense. We would be more than willing to set one up to discuss the specifics of your case.

You should not discount the value of paying for good legal counsel to give you a full review and analysis of your case.

Depending on your technical training and the job offer there may be other options available.

Only a full consultation with an attorney knowledgeable in immigration law can answer your question properly.
