Legal Question in Insurance Law in Wisconsin
On 11/4/2016, I had a friend commit suicide. On 6/26/2016, she had text messaged me that she wanted to know if I would take her dog if anything happened to her. She also said that she was leaving me her life insurance, since she couldn't leave it directly to her dog. Her father had just died the beginning of June 2016 and she stated that she needed to change the beneficiary on the policy because he was it. She didn't get to it changed over before leaving this world. Would I have any claim to her life insurance with this text message? It will be going to her estate and no other family members have stepped forward. I did take her dog and have spent a lot of my money getting him health care.

You could certainly give it a try, assuming that the authenticity of the text message could be proven. The insurer would probably make you get a court order, however, which would mean a lawsuit, but if there is no other surviving family, then it might come to pass that nobody would fight the lawsuit, meaning that you would win, assuming that all the right parties were served and all proper litigation procedures followed.
