Legal Question in Insurance Law in Wisconsin

Was I Swindled?

I co-owned a house which was destroyed by fire. One of the two fellow co-owners (one of two step-brothers) took out an insurance policy on the house (and my possessions) without my knowledge or approval. When this brother applied for insurance, he was initially rejected (apparently because he was not a resident)but when my name was substituted for his, the application was accepted.

I was the named ''Insured'' party yet received less than 1/3 of the settlement and virtually nothing for ''contents.'' There was never an inventory list of the items destroyed, yet my brothers received money for possessions they did not

They received compensation for items which they did not own. I never even submitted an inventory form. I simply did not have the time to do so. Was I swindled?

One last point. Neither I nor my brother paid for the ''session'' at my attorney office. That left just one party to do so - the insurance company! I feel I walked into an ambush and that a little bit of collusion took place. Am I right?

Unfortunately, this is outside the scope of my insurance law expertise, which generally addresses liability and auto insurance.
