Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Wisconsin

Job transfer, leave lease early

We moved into our Duplex in Jan 2006 and signed a 1 yr lease through Dec 2006. About 2-3 months ago, the Duplex was sold and the new owner moved in next door. We were told when we moved in that the landlord was looking to sell, but that our lease would remain the same. I did not see anyhting in the lease about that, nor did we see a copy of the real estate sale, nor has our new landlord appraoched us about signing a new lease. My wife recently got a promotion and we will have to move. Will we be able to get out of this current lease? Thanks

Not without permission from the new landlord.

The lease was no doubt assigned by the old landlord to the buyer.

I would have to review the written lease to be sure however.

Call or e-mail for further assistance.

I have been a landlord over 25 years.
