Does the lanlord have the right to pay my utilities
We decided to break our lease to move into a house. We had an outstanding balance on our utility bill which we were in agreement to pay with the utility company. The lanlord told us that he had the place rented out as of September 1st. We then moved out on August 28th thinking that since the place had been rented out and there was no relapse time between tenants we would get our deposit back. Instead, the lanlord lied and the people did not move in until October 1st so he kept our deposit. Then he took it apon himself to pay our outstanding balance with the utility company and is now threating to take us to court if we do not pay him the $483 that we did not ask him/ nor did we know he was going to pay.

What does lease say?

If you don't pay the utilities, does he get stuck? If so, he has a right to offset deposit.
