Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Wisconsin
verbal contract as legal as a written?
We own a hair salon. We enter into Bridal contracts in which we provide services for an entire bridal party. Our contract requires the payment in full 45 days before the wedding. This avoids us booking up an entire morning and losing money if they don't show up.We entered into a verbal contract with a bride who was within the 45 days. We agreed to do their party with the contract being paid before the date. She asked us if it was ok to pay it on the Friday before the wedding, when she would be coming in for massage services. We agreed. On the Friday she called at 9:10 and said they were having car problems, she couldn't make it. So Saturday rolls around and the entire morning is shot because they didn't show up. Not even a curtisy call to cancel. I am sending her a bill for the services. Will this hold up in small claims if I need to go further with this? The service dollars lost were $483.00. I'd appreciated any answers you can give me.

Verbal Contract to Pay for Missed Appointments
Small verbal contracts can be enforced in court if their existence can be proven, which is often the most difficult part of the case. With no written documentation, it is much easier for a party to deny the existence of the agreement or dispute the details of its terms.
