In WI, criminal charges involve your local District Attorney and police agencies; individuals cannot commence criminal proceedings, although they can sue in civil court for assault and battery. If you want criminal charges to be issued, you must therefore begin the process through your local police or sheriff's department. Suing individuals for assault and battery in civil court is expensive and may not be worth the money, so most people would use the public law enforcement option unless they are very wealthy. If the defendant is convicted of a crime, restitution for your medical bills and lost wages would normally be ordered if you request it. If you do not mind spending some money, however, or if your injuries are permanents, you should also consult an experienced personal injury attorney. Your right to proceed in such matters will expire over relatively short time periods, so you should move quickly if you are serious about this. Please be aware that my responses to you in the public web forum do not make me your attorney and that I am not representing you or taking any action on your case.
