Legal Question in Personal Injury in Wisconsin

Can I Be Charged With a Crime?

I caused some damage to the door of an apartment building and the police were called. I was not charged with any crime and I went back to my house. My question is, can I still be made to pay for any damages that I caused to the door, even though I was let go and not charged with any crime?

Re: Can I Be Charged With a Crime?

The title of your question: "Can I be charged with a crime?" does not really seem to be your question. I think that you are interested in learning whether the property owner my file a civil lawsuit against you to recover the cost of repairing the door. The answer to that question is "yes". Whether, or not, you are prosecuted criminally for your actions is irrelevant as to whether the property owner may sue you in a civil action. If the property owner can prove that you caused the damage to the door and if the property owner can prove the amount of the damage, then you may be held liable for the damages.

This is really not a personal injury law issue. I suggest you read your lease. The odds are you are responsible.
