Legal Question in Personal Injury in Wisconsin
When a client settles an automobile accident case and has money coming to them, does the attorney HAVE to check and see if the client owes any child support?

Since WI law specifies that a publically docketed child support lien applies to all property of the payor, a cautious attorney probably would check the child support lien docket prior to disbursing proceeds from a personal injury case. However, if I were you, I would discuss this issue ahead of time in person with your personal injury attorney in a confidential setting rather than in a public web forum. My comments in this public web forum are intended only for public educational purposes and are not legal advice specifically tailored to you and your case. Instead, you should retain a lawyer in order to meet your legal needs, since I will be taking no action on your case. Disclosure of confidential information in a public web forum is not recommended and is always subject to being used against you in court.
