Legal Question in Personal Injury in Wisconsin

slip/fall at a business

I rent commercial space for my business. My grandmother stopped in and slipped off the step and broke her leg. Am I liable or is the landlord/property owner?

Liability in WI for Slip and Fall Injuries at a Business

In WI, liability for anyone slipping and falling on your property is not automatic, rather the plaintiff would need to prove that the fall occurred primarily due to your negligence or failure to maintain a reasonably safe place of business rather than due to the clumsiness of the victim or other causes which are not the property owners fault such as snow and ice. Many property , however, many insurers, will automatically pay medical bills up to certain caps in such cases, regardless of fault, in order to prevent further litigation. These comments are not intended as legal advice to you unless you subsequently retain me, rather, you need to hire your own attorney or apply for a public defender.
