Re: How do you speed up a settlement?
I do not know what the Minnesota law says about discharging a lawyer. I do not think that you should contact the insurance company directly. Let your lawyer handle that. There is usually not much a person can do to speed up the settlement process. I think you should continue to call your lawyer to make sure that he is pushing for a settlement. If you are dissatisfied to the point that you think you should get another lawyer, I think you should contact someone with a good reputation in the area where a suit will have to be filed. Again, I do not know Minnesota law and how it deals with clients wishing to let their lawyers go. In Wisconsin, the lawyer has a claim for attorney fees unless the client can show that the lawyer breached the attorney - client contract by not performing the services the lawyer agreed to do.
