Legal Question in Personal Injury in Wisconsin
Can I sue for slander?
My fiance's ex-girlfriend called his mother and friends and told them that I am a 'stripper, and a slut with several STDs." After 7 months of her attacks on my reputation, I went to my doctor. I have been on Prozac for 3 years and doing great. Her lies have brought on a recurrence of my depression, as well as anxiety and shingles. My dr has me off of work for a med. leave for the past 3 months. Is what she said considered slander? As for damages, is reputation enough, and would the recurrence of my depression be a pre-existing injury? She just won't leave me alone. Can I sue and win? Thanx!

Re: Can I sue for slander?
Anyone can always sue--the real question is
whether or not it is worth the expense and
aggravation. Whether or not you can win can
only be decided with certainty by a jury or
judge, after a year or two of litigation and
out of pocket expenses of three to five
thousand dollars. During this process, all
the old injuries you sustained will be rehashed
ad nauseum, since truth is a defense in a case
like this and the defendant may persist in claiming
the stories are true. To make matters worse,
getting a judgement is not the same as getting
any money at all. Is the defendant "collectable?"
If you still really want to do this and believe it
is worthwhile, send me a privaate e-mail or call.
