Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Wisconsin

Co-Signer obligations in a multiperson lease

My daughter is sharing an apartment with 4 other girls. They each will sign the lease. A co-sign document was provided to each girl for their parents signature. The rent per month is typed in and is the total amount for the lease per month. All the documents provided to all the girls have the same total amount. What are my obligations in relation to the overall amount versus the 1/5th my daughter will actually owe.

Re: Co-Signer obligations in a multiperson lease

Each party and each signing parent is being asked to be "jointly and severally liable for the entire amount of the rent." That is designed to protect the landlord, so that no matter who he is forced to go after, he can collect the entire rent from any of the obligated parties.
