Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Wisconsin
dismissal and discharge of lis pendens
A former friend was being forclosed on by her mortgage holder. Recently saw the above term in the notes on the case on my states Justice Dept web site. Does this mean she did not lose the property?

Real Estate Foreclosure--Dismissal and Discharge of Lis Pendens
In Wisconsin, a lis pendens is merely a notice to the world that litigation is pending which might effect ownership of a parcel of real estate. It would normally be released whenever the litigation ends, regardless of the outcome. You should purchase a title search report from any licensed title agency if you want to know the status of current ownership, although many experienced attorneys might also be able to get much information for free from your courts. Foreclosures in many states are a long, slow process, although this varies. Good luck!
