Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Wisconsin

divorce and forclosure

I was divorced mid last year, my ex-husband was awarded the house and I was not awarded any payment for equity in the house. He never did a quit claim deed or a refinance it in his name only, after many attempts to try and get him to . I find out now he is behind on the mortgage and the house will be going into foreclosure. Divorce paperwork states he is soley responsible for the financial obligations on the house my mortgage company told me my decree means nothing and that I am legally responsible for the loan as well as he is. Is there any legal steps I can take to have my name taken off this loan?

Re: divorce and forclosure

Your mortgage company is correct. If you get stuck paying, your recourse will be to go after your ex in divorce court and maybe ask that he be found in contempt.
