Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Wisconsin
Error on Closing Statement
My husband and I noted an error on a closing statement that relates to a parcel of land we sold early in 2004. The credit we gave to the buyer for property taxes was way too high, as our attorney made an error in estimating the amount we owed for the 55 days we owned the land. On the closing statement is a line that states ''this statement is accepted as correct this date.'' My question is: Can we somehow get the money from the buyer that is the difference between the original credited amount and the actual amount due to her (this sum is approx. $600) and if so what is the best way to go about this?

Re: Error on Closing Statement
Most closings these days require all parties to sign a form promising to correct clerical errors in the future. Show this to the seller, along with you re-computation, as see if they might be willing to pay without the need for litigation. Good Luck!
