Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Wisconsin

joint tenents

I own a house in joint tenency. I have moved out and have been out for 2.5 years. I've been paying 50% of the taxes and the other 50% has come from the other owner. I now want to sell the property. Can I force my exfriend to sell the propery?

Re: joint tenents

Unless you and your co-owner agree, you will have to petition a circuit court to "partition" your property. That could either result in a physical partitioning of the property into two parcels, one for each of you, or if the property is not divisible, the judge could require that the property be sold and the proceeds be divided. You most likely would need an attorney to handle such a court action.
