mechanics lien

landscaping contractor was paid in full for work done. we were under the inpression that only his workers were doing the work, but unknown to us he subcontracted a patio to be poured. He has not paid the subcontractor and that contractor is filling a lien against us for non payment by the landscaper who was paid in full. Is this not faud; and can someone fill a lien against you when you did not make a contract with them. Shouldn't they be going after the landscaper. Thanks.

It is not fraud. the subcontractor may file a lien if they provided proper prelien notices. You must sue the contraaactor.
