Pro Bono Legal Assistance in Wisconsin

The organizations of which I am aware who locally provide pro bono (free of charge) legal assistance include Legal Action of Wisconsin (and similar agencies funded by the Wisconsin Supreme Court's WISTAFF office such as Centro Legal in Milwaukee), and certain religious charities such as Catholic (and/or Lutheran) Social Services. I know that their funding is extremely limited and that they only therefore handle gravely serious civil matters. The Wisconsins State Public Defender's Office provides free legal representation for the poor in criminal cases. The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin also has a volunteer run helpdesk with very limited hours of availability. For the poverty requirements to qualify for the services of any such organization, you should contact that organization directly.
