Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Wisconsin

Sexual Harassment

I was working for a family business, in a department unrelated to the retail store. There were only 2 employees me and my direct supervisor. My supervisor made suggestive comments on my appearance. In July we hired an additional staff person and he would make comments in front of her and ask her to comment back. He would slap my butt with a long handled shoe horn, ask me to go home with him in the middle of the day ''to take a nap''. He would put his hand on my knee when we were talking or if we were standing he would back me into a corner. I started to get sick and hate to come into work, I became very ill in Sep. and required a blood transfusion. I kept a diary of the things he said and did to me but I never reported the harassment to upper management until October when he grabbed me and lifted me up in a locked room. I confided to the store manager but told him I didn't know if I wanted to take action. The manager has since been fired for embezzling money from the company. I did tell my supervisor to stop this but he told me he was only joking. I don't know if I have case because the person I told has been fired, and I was fired in April for something unrelated to the harassment.

Re: Sexual Harassment

You may have a sexual harassment claim against the employer because, many times, the fact that you were harassed by your supervisor creates liability for the employer. However there is an issue regarding your damages. Most important for you, however, is that you have 300 days from the time the last sex. harassment occurred in which to file a charge. If you want to pursue a charge I suggest you call the Equal Rights Division of the Department of Workforce Development asap and get them to assist you in filing a charge:
