Legal Question in Traffic Law in Wisconsin
20 year old traffic violation
I received a ticket for Fleeing an Officer in 1985. We were in the process of negotiating a lesser charge when my job transferred me out of state and I was unable to appear at the next court hearing. A bench warrant was issued for failure to appear 21 years ago. I have since returned to the state, received and renewed my driver's license, and registered several cars within the past 15 years all without problem. After this long a time what would the status be?

Re: 20 year old traffic violation
You should retain a lawyer to investigate this matter for you. Sometimes extremely old warrants for minor offenses are cancelled, but sometimes not. And, Fleeing an Officer is hardly a minor offense--it became a felony in WI several years ago. Policies on old warrants are inconsistent between counties and you need someone who knows your local county policies.
