OWI Counting of Multiple Offenses from Out of State in WI; Pending Legislative Revisions

Yes, WI counts prior convictions from any state for life when it comes to third or subsequent offenses provided that they are able to obtain that information from the sending state. At the moment, WI only looks back for ten years for a second offense, however, that may change in the next revision of the DUI/OWI laws by our state legislature (a semi-monthly occurance). Other proposals which are pending include the criminalizing of first offense, as well as making the third offense a felony (currently it is a misdemeanor featuring one year in jail; a felony would switch that to prison time). You should consult with your own lawyer in this matter rather than relying upon my comments in the public forum--this is not intended as legal advice.
