average time for probate
recived a letter from a attorney to say i was in line for a inhieratance from a good friend who died last oct.2004. There are no children or marriage involved, no property no debt, no contesting from other family who are cousins.The letter stated may 2 2005 was the dead line for cridetors,non replied. On May 5th I told the layer I wasleaving for Alaska on a adventure which will take me away for aprox. 2 years on June 1 st. this year. He told me he had lost his secretary an he was behind. I had to cancel my trip and can get no info. on when this can be setteled.What prussure can I put on this putz?

Thanks for your email. There is one certain thing about probates: they generally take longer than they should. There are time limits, but not short enough that they will move the attorney along at the pace you want. It can help for the beneficiary (you) to have an attorney, if for no other reason the to put pressure on the lawyer to get you information and give the matter attention.
It would not cost much to have a lawyer to do this, and if there is a fair amount of money coming to you, it might be worth the cost to get the money paid sooner rather than later.
