Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Wisconsin
Finding whats rightfully mine
When Turned 25 I was supposed to get a inheritance from my grandfather, he died when i was 21, I have not heard anything from anybody in my family in regads to this subject. How do I find out about the will, and what was left to me,because when i do ask questions to my mother about my savings bonds and the inheritance she tells me that its gone. I did not cash the bonds and I have seen the will many times I do know that there is something out there for me but I dont know where to start. Can you please Help me?

If your grandfather had a probate, the file would be in the courthouse in the county where he was a resident when he died. That file would show the assets, income and expenses and who was responsible for the estate. If there was no estate, or if a trust was used, it would be much more difficult to get the information. These are fairly technical matters that you should see a competent attorney about.

Hello, please excuse the delay in reply. I had a glitch in my email system. I agree with what the other attorney said; other than that, maybe you could ask your mother to be more specific. Also, are there other family members with a knowledge of this? If you have seen the Will, was your mother the executor of the estate? Sometimes the Will gives away things that dont end up being owned by the deceased at death. Again, it may be difficult to track these things down, but if you consult for just an hour or two with an attorney, you should be able to find out if it is worth the effort. Best Wishes, Mark J.
