Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Wisconsin

Land Options in a Will

My grandmother does not have a will. She doesn't have much, but she does have some land and a house. She would like to leave this to all of her decendants to share. She basically would like to land to stay in the family, and never be broken up or sold. Is there a legal way she could do this?

Thanks

Chuck

Re: Land Options in a Will

Greetings,

"Never be broken up or sold," is not something that can be done as far as I know. But before she concludes that, she should get another opinion from a lawyer in her area. Even though I question the "never" part of it, there likely are some steps of various kinds to help increase the chances that the land stays in the family. This includes will provisions, transfer options while she is alive, etc. An attorney to advise properly has to work with her directly and get more information re her situation.

Best wishes, Mark J. Mahoney
