If one was a resident of two States, Michigan and Wisconsin, and passes away in Wisconsin without a will, in which State should the estate be opened?

It could be one, both, or neither. The answer depends on where property is located that needs an estate opened to transfer it. If he had real estate in both states in just his name, for example, then an estate may have to be opened in both states. The answer depends on what type of property was owned at death, where and how titled.
