Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Wisconsin
rites of heirs
I would like to know if I have a right to read the will of my mother to see if I would entitled to any
cash or property. My stepfather has the will and will
not allow me to see it.

Re: rites of heirs
Wisconsin law requires the will of a decedent be
filed in the office of the Register of Probate in
the county where the decedent died, within 30 days
of the decedent's death. While the penalties for
late filing are not significant, there are some
means then to get the court to order the filing, at
which time the will generally becomes public.
