Legal Question in Family Law in Wyoming

Child custody and medical treatment

My husband has full custody of his kids. His ex wants to put the 13 year old daughter on birth control with out his permission. Is this possible or is there something he can do about it. She hasn't paid child support since the divorce and they have been going to visit her in Minnesota during the summer time.

Re: Child custody and medical treatment

Generally, when a parent has sole custody of a child, that parent has the sole decision making authority regarding the child's healthcare with the exception of emergency medical treatment. Your husband's ex-wife probably should not be making those decisions. However, it sounds like there may be some underlying issues with the daughter which leads her mother to believe she needs to be on birth control. Rather than battling over who has the right to make this decision, the two parents probably need to communicate and decide what to do. Nevertheless, if your husband wishes to pursue legal action, he should consult an attorney in Wyoming to discuss this with him.

This may be more of a mental health matter. If he believes that this is not in the girl's best interests, he should seek the appropriate court action.
