Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Wyoming

Music Rights

I have started making Photo Stories (slideshow videos of Photos) for people. As part of the service I include music, generally from a popular song from within 30 years or so. They are added to the Slideshow. If it is music in my library, what legal issues do I need to be aware of? If I have the individual supply the music with their pictures, would that change things? Thanks.

Re: Music Rights

You may have a very expensive copyright issue on your hands unless you have already taken steps to avoid infringing others' copyright. That you have the client supply the music probably changes nothing.

You need to contact a copyright attorney immediately. There are good ones in Wyoming, but New York and California are the "homes" of copyright law (which makes sense: the publishing industry is mostly located in NY and the movie industry is mostly located in CA). I would be happy to talk with you (I'm in NY). Feel free to contact my office to set up an appointment for a free 1/2 hour telephone consultation.
