Legal Question in Employment Law in Wyoming

Harassment

I am a salaried employee at a manufacturing company. My boss is known for being lewd, unreasonable, and over-demanding. My co-foremen and I are constantly threatened with loosing our jobs. We ae put down emotionlly and humiliated in front of our employees. Personally, I have been dis-respected and reprimanded for things which are beyond my control.I am called a coward, accused of stealing time and money from him, and am brought to tears by his out-bursts of temper.

My duties are to organize and line out people within my department to peform electrical tasks. I have done this very well according to my Immediate supervisor (A different person).

I would like to know if there are legal reprocutions to me if I decide to quit because of this man's out-bursts, or if I have any sort of legal course to sue him if he continues to harrass me.

Wyoming is an at-will employment state. That means you can quit whenever you want, and your employer can fire you whenever the employer wants. The at-will status can be modified by an employment contract or policy manual. Whether your employer can retaliate against you for quitting depends, primarily, upon the existence of such a document. The lawyer answer is that I cannot tell without further information.

There is no law in Wyoming that makes people have good manners. However, if the conduct is based upon sex of sexual inuendo, to the point where it creates a hostile work environment, you may have a claim under federal law. You can contact your local department of employment and they can advise you on your claim. Also, you can contact several of your local attorneys who can advise you of the specifics of your situation.
