HIPAA Compliance / Violation

Identity was stolen from a large medical institution. The thief has been tried and found guilty. Can the medical institution be held liable for any type of damages due to negligence of HIPAA rights?

Depending on what happened and to the extent that you have been damaged the hospital could quite possibly have liability for not protecting your medical information.
