Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in California

Received credit card at 17 years of age, now in collections, am I obligated to r

When I was 17 I went on the internet and requested a credit card. I lied about my date of birth and told them that was 18, eager to establish credit history. To my suprise the card arrived in the mail 2 weeks later. I made some car repairs at the age of 17 and charged them to the credit card. I used the card after I turned 18, but ran in to some financial problems and ended up in collections. I know there is a law in California that voids any contract prior to the age of 18. Am I responsible to pay these debts regardless? Will I be subject to criminal charges for lying about my age if I dispute the collection?
