Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

My friend was arrested on 1/7/11 in LA for Reckless Driving, Intent to Sell Narcotic Controlled Substance, & Possession of Controlled Substance for Sale. He has been in jail since that date, and he had a court date yesterday, 1/25/11. Following his inmate status on LASD website it says his next court date is 2/17/11. HIs bail is $500,000. What will happen to him?

He'll stay in jail until at least 2/17 unless he comes up with the bail money. How the devil am I supposed to know what will ultimately happen to him?
