Legal Question in Family Law in California

I am going through a divorce and i want to stay in the home however there is no equity in the home. So since there is no equity i will have to refiance and bring in additional funds. Is my spouse liable for the additional funds also since to refi i need to bring in funds to get him off the loan. Because i know if there was equity in the home I would have to pay him off. Please Advise Thank you
