adjustment of work scheaduel to care for sick parent

I work forty hours a week and have a sick father. I need to take every other friday off to help take care of him. I need to adjust my work schedual by working longer days so i still get my 80 hours every two weeks. if my employer will not let me work longer days can they be forced to under the family medical leave act

The problem is that, in California, if you are an hourly employee, the company is required to pay overtime for any more than 8 hours per day, no matter how many hours you work during the week. Therefore, they would be required to pay you time and a half for eight hours to give you a day off.

You are entitled to the day off on Friday, but not for pay.
