Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I live in a low income hosing and I pay 995.00 of rent and it was lowered to 992.00. Im going to have a year living at this apartment in October, now managment is trying to raise the rent before the yearly lease. I have asked managment the reason for this rent raise and all he says is that is because of the tax credit program. I would like to make shure before I pay the increased rent that managment is reqesting is correct if not so I can take further actions.

No matter what reason the owner has, if the contract does not directly state that a rent increase can be made before the one year lease is up, he is bound by the contract. Rents can not be raised until the original rental agreement provides for an increase.

It appears you are under the jurisdiction of the City of Los Angeles. If so, you are subject to rent control. Contact the city rent control agency for help with this.
